The scene depicts a place during the evening whilst the war of Mahabharata was being fought between brothers of the greatest Royal Empire. The Story is from the greatest Doomsday Epic of history and a sacred book of Hindus.
In those times Wars were fought during the day but stopped once the evening set in... and it began again the next morning.
So this scene depicts the situation and view not of the war but of the evening time when the war has paused. The sword of a great warrior is stuck in soil soaked in human blood.
